AERATED STATIC PILE (ASP)

Faster Composting On a Smaller Footprint

Aerated Static Piles (ASP) are a simple and efficient way to compost challenging feedstocks like food waste, biosolids, and manures. Well-designed ASP systems manage the oxygen and temperature levels in the piles to speed up the process while reducing material handling costs and controlling odors. We offer a variety of ASP systems for the full spectrum of composting facilities and budgets.

How It Works

Compost feedstocks are blended for proper bulk density and moisture content, then formed into windrows or a trapezoidal pile over the aeration zones. The high aeration system keeps the composting microbes happy and hot for around 15 days. The material is then irrigated and turned into a low aeration system for roughly another 15 days before curing.

Below Grade ASP Systems

As operators ourselves, we know that a compost facility does not need to be complicated to work well. With this in mind, we created two anti-clogging aeration systems; the concrete aeration beam and the high air sparger. Both systems are simple to install and can work in positive, negative, or reversing aeration.

Pre-Engineered ASP Systems

For those on a budget, we offer a variety of pre-engineered and pipe on grade composting solutions. Each of these include GMT’s WebMACS control system, temperature probes, and blowers. These solutions require minimal site work, however they cost more to operate.

Radial ASP (rASP)

We know that the most expensive part of running a compost facility is labor. Thus, we designed and patented the rASP, a novel solution that uses a telescoping conveyor to move material directly from the discharge of your grinder into an aeration bay, saving operators as much as 40% on operating costs.

“Green Mountain Technologies has proven their expertise and professionalism, and they are always just a phone call away and offer their assistance promptly. Allwood Recyclers, Inc. was an existing facility for over 20 years prior to working with GMT to design our ASP system…I was very impressed with how they worked with our challenges and made adjustments to their design to make everything work for our facility…I have enjoyed working with the GMT team and would recommend them to anyone looking for a composting system design.”
