School & University Composting
Challenges of School and University Composting
School and university composting initiatives are often driven by the environmental and educational benefits. However, on-site composting also offers a strong financial benefit for campuses through reduced disposal costs and the value of the compost produced. There are many challenges to composting at a small scale with limited space and operational resources. Schools and universities need composting systems that are easy to operate while bringing economic benefits to the institution.
Odor Management
The number one reason for facility closure is odor violations. We’re proud to report that none of our clients have been shut down due to odors. Our systems allow you to operate even in the most densely populated regions.
Permitting
Permitting can require extensive time unless requirements are clearly met. We offer completely enclosed solutions with excellent odor control and one-on-one consulting to simplify permitting compliance.
Education
Many educational institutions have integrated GMT’s composting solutions into curriculums. Our systems offer compelling visual elements allowing students to be actively engaged in the process.
Our Solutions
Green Mountain Technologies offers proven solutions for schools and Universities, from affordable aerated static pile (ASP) systems to automated in-vessel systems. Our goal is always the same: empower educational institutions with efficient systems to turn organic waste streams into valuable compost products.

2. Pre-Engineered ASP Systems
ASP composting significantly reduces mechanical turning of the material, while speeding up the primary composting process to just 1.5 months, plus 4-8 weeks curing time (compared to 6+ months with turned windrow composting). PRE-ASP can reduce footprint and material handling costs by as much as 50% when compared to turned windrow composting.
