Cannabis Composting

Challenges of Cannabis Composting

Cannabis waste disposal is often strictly regulated, expensive, and time-consuming. However, with appropriate on-site composting infrastructure, cannabis operations can turn this costly waste-stream into a valuable soil amendment for regenerative agriculture.

Compliance

Green Mountain Technologies offers proven solutions for cannabis facilities, with our Earth Flow in-vessel automatic composting systems. The contained automatic process of the Earth Flow composting system is an ideal way to convert cannabis residuals into valuable compost products. Alternatively, a simple Pre-engineered ASP system can be set up inside an enclosed building for process control, with minimal material handling costs and a 30 to 60 day process time.

Permitting

Permitting can take years, even for small facilities. We offer completely enclosed solutions with excellent odor control and consultants who are experienced in working with regulators and permit facilities.

Labor Costs

The most expensive component of a compost facility is labor. Therefore, it is important to audit your organization’s resources before choosing a solution. Leverage GMT’s 30 years of experience designing facilities to reduce material handling costs.

2. Pre-Engineered ASP Composting

ASP composting significantly reduces mechanical turning of the material, while speeding up the primary composting process to just 1.5 months, plus 4-8 weeks curing time (compared to 6+ months with turned windrow composting). PRE-ASP can reduce footprint and material handling costs by as much as 50% when compared to turned windrow composting.

“Composting provides an environmentally friendly way to process the organic matter produced by the (cannabis) industry. Without the Earth Flow in-vessel composting system our business would look much different because the in-vessel allows us to operate indoors. The Earth Flow allows us to monitor and control potential hazards such as gasses and leachate/water runoff. The Earth Flow method gives the operator control over almost everything. This lets you create and maintain the best conditions for composting, producing a premium compost/product in a fraction of the time. ”
