Client’s Requirements

Recology was looking to expand their organics processing capacity in Oregon. They needed a cost effective solution that would process large amounts of waste on a small footprint with minimal odor impact. The design also had to be modular so that it could be applied at both the Aumsville and North Plains facilities They put the project out to bid, looking for qualified firms that had extensive industry experience.

Our Solution

GMT won the bid in 2012 and designed a 24 zone negative aeration pipe on grade system. The system operated without issue for about a decade, when Recology decided they wanted to put the piping below grade to lower operational costs and improve throughput. GMT was again hired for the expansion work, designing a 20 zone reversing ASP system that integrated into the existing asphalt pad. The first phase of the expansion was constructed in 2020 and the second phase was completed in 2024. The improved facility allows them to process even larger amounts of FW on a small footprint with proximal neighbors.
