Recology Ostrom Organics CASE STUDY

To help California meet SB1383, Recology went out looking for a solution to help them process the greater Sacramento regions organic Waste Stream. With the goal of processing 2,000 tons per day, it was essential that the design was proven, simple to operate, and highly scalable. Additionally, being close to marshland and within California’s stringent regulatory environment meant that the design had to meet some of America’s most stringent air and water regulations.

GMT designed an award winning 48-zone aeration system with below grade spargers and WebMACS controls. The zero discharge facility leveraged existing grade and equipment to control stormwater and reduce cost. GMT assisted the client with permitting, facility layout, integration of mechanical and electrical equipment, construction, and operator training. GMT is still actively involved in operations and construction, ensuring throughput and compliance goals are met. Since its construction, the facility has earned multiple accolades including the National Waste & Recycling Association’s “Organics Management Facility of the Year Award.” At present only two zones have been constructed, however the facility will soon be expanded.
