Client’s Requirements
The Ron LeFore Apple Farm began in 1947 when Ron LeFore’s dad and mom planted their first tree. Today, Ron LeFore Apple Farm is a family owned and operated business of apple growers, packers, and shippers in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Their quality apples are distributed on the international marketplace, across the U.S., and in their local community to friends and neighbors. The LeFore’s felt strongly about finding a better solution than landfilling apples that do not meet the grading specifications or end up with damaged packaging. They turned to the experts at GMT to collaborate on a custom on site composting solution to meet their unique needs.
Our Solution
To meet the 210 acre apple farm's unique requirements, GMT worked with the team at Ron LeFore to construct a 40'x8' Site Built Earth Flow with automated temperature monitoring, guaranteeing precision in the composting process. Extensive research guided us in crafting the ideal recipe for composting apples and shredded paper and cardboard packing material. What emerged was a tailor-made solution that not only met the farm's objectives but also underscored the importance of sustainability. By effectively managing discarded apples and packaging materials on site and diverting that organic material away from the landfill, our solution not only fulfilled their goals but also significantly reduced environmental impact by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This partnership exemplifies our unwavering commitment to delivering innovative, client-centered solutions with a profound positive effect on the environment.
