Client’s Requirements

Pride Ranch is a not-for-profit horse sanctuary nestled in the scenic mountains of Idaho, dedicated to providing loving care and a safe home for horses in need. As a newer facility with plans to welcome additional horses, the ranch needed a sustainable way to manage the increasing volume of manure and soiled bedding generated on site.

Previously, manure and bedding were collected in containers and hauled nearly two hours to the nearest facility that accepted the material. In addition to the cost and logistical burden of hauling, the accumulation of manure contributed to an abundance of flies on the property. Pride Ranch was looking for an on-site solution that would provide a more efficient way to manage this material, reduce pest concerns, and support the sanctuary’s continued growth.

Our Solution

Green Mountain Technologies installed an Earth Flow IM-20 in-vessel composting system tailored to Pride Ranch’s waste management needs. The system provides an efficient, on-site solution for processing horse manure, recycled cardboard bedding, and straw.

The Earth Flow system is equipped with the WebMACS® control system to monitor and automate the composting process for consistent composting performance. The enclosed system with in-vessel biofilter and aeration provides a controlled composting environment that helps control odors and pests associated with manure accumulation. Together, these features simplify system management and provide Pride Ranch with a reliable way to transform manure and bedding into high-quality finished compost.

By processing manure and bedding on site, Pride Ranch can reduce the cost and logistical burden of hauling material nearly two hours to an off-site facility. The finished compost is used as a soil amendment for the ranch’s pastures, creating a circular system that keeps organic material on site and puts it back to use on the property.

“We really love the system so far. It is such an improvement from having containers of manure that needed to be hauled off to the dump. GMT was very accommodating with us as our timeline kept changing. Once we were ready for them, they were helpful and efficient during our installation. Cameron, the GMT rep, was a great guy and very knowledgeable.”
