Client’s Requirements

Singapore, a vibrant yet land-scarce island nation, faces the challenges of high population density and limited available land for agriculture. In this urban landscape, Kok Fah Technology Farm stands as one of the few remaining farms. They play a crucial role in providing fresh greens and bok choy to local markets. However, the intense farming practices over the years have taken a toll on their soil, demanding ever-increasing use of pesticides and fertilizers to maintain crop yields. Kok Fah was in need of a transformative solution - one that would not only tackle their vegetable waste but also revive their soil health sustainably. They sought an effective composting technology that could create nutrient rich compost, be compatible with their existing operations, and be easily transported overseas.

Our Solution

GMT provided a sustainable, customized, and transportable composting system to not only mitigate waste from the farm but also lay the foundation for healthier, more productive farming practices. GMT’s custom Site-Built Earth Flow system was constructed with a 12’ wide and 60’ long greenhouse structure with the mixing technology inside. Installed near the packinghouse, culls and horse manure are easily delivered to receiving bunkers next to the composter. The material remains in the vessel for approximately three weeks before it is discharged, and cured for one month prior to use on the farm beds. Having recognized the importance of investing in technologies, KFTF introduced various high-tech machinery and equipment to assist in the farming processes so as to bring about the improved level of efficiency and productivity.

“The Composting System is a revolutionary industrial machine that allows our company to produce a large amount of high-grade compost by re-utilising vegetable waste generated from our packing house. This 100% fully automated, in-vessel composting system allows thermophilic composting via automated mixing, compost aeration and moisture addition, allowing the compost to be agitated 2 to 4 times daily. Bio-filter installed within the machine also helps in eliminating odour produced during the composting process, making the working environment much more conducive for our employees. Through the integration of this composter, recycling of vegetable wastes are made possible, and enables us to reach the goal of achieving sustainable farming in Singapore.”
