Client’s Requirements
Ft. Leavenworth, a military base in Missouri, boasts a unique blend of responsibilities. Not only does it provide boarding facilities for horses, but it also manages the food waste generated by its bustling campus cafeteria. In 2016, Fort Leavenworth embarked on a groundbreaking research project to showcase how composting can be a viable solution to replace the conventional practice of burning waste generated on more remote military bases. Ft. Leavenworth's commitment to sustainability and pioneering spirit are forging a path toward safer, eco-friendly, waste management practices that save money and conserve energy for military operations, setting new standards for a healthier future.
Our Solution
Our partnership extended beyond conceptualization. GMT worked closely with a dedicated military consulting group to craft a comprehensive test plan tailored to the unique needs of managing waste in military operations. This plan served as the blueprint for evaluating the system's performance under real-world conditions, and the result was that the GMT Earth Flow In-Vessel Composting System was the ideal solution. This partnership between experts paved the way for Fort Leavenworth’s adoption of sustainable waste management practices, solidifying the Earth Flow's reputation as the top choice for an on site composting solution in uniquely challenging environments. Fort Leavenworth has incorporated a horticulture program that is using the finished compost in their greenhouse. The base is successfully processing horse manure, dewatered food scraps, and landscape waste in the 22’x8’ GMT Earth Flow.
