Elwoz Eco needed a solution to processing the organic fraction of municipal household waste (MSW) to keep these materials out of the landfill, along with the composting of separated food waste and green waste. GMT’s partner, Compost Systems GmbH of Austria was retained to design a Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) composting facility which was commissioned in 2014.
Our Solution
Elwoz Eco focuses on modern technologies and solutions in waste management. In the initial phase of its activity, the company dealt with drying alternative fuels. In 2014, the RDF (refuse derived fuel, aka “waste to energy”) installation was modernized, and a facility for Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) of mixed waste was launched with the COMBObox system from Compost Systems GmbH. Subsequently, in 2023, this installation was expanded with a BIO waste composting plant, where organic waste is processed into high-quality compost.
The enclosed CompoBox system ensures complete process control and eliminates all greenhouse gas emissions while capturing all odors with a biofilter. MSW or biowaste is loaded into the CompoBox tunnels and automatically aerated for three to four weeks before the material is mechanically sorted into recyclable materials, RDF materials and composted material. The composted organics fraction is then moved to the curing area. The covered curing area accelerates the final stage of the composting process, including use of a TracTurn side discharge turner.
Today this facility processes more than 18,000 metric tons per year of MSW and green waste.
