Client’s Requirements

Archway Equestrian, a training center specializing in competitive show horses, set out to optimize their horse manure management practices with a strong focus on economic and environmental efficiency. The primary objective was to curtail the expenses and environmental impact associated with waste hauling and disposal while reducing their cost of bedding materials. In light of these objectives, the equestrian center sought on-site composting solutions to address this challenge.

Our Solution

Archway worked with GMT to select the 40’ Intermodal Earth Flow system. Distinguished by its high-performance mixing and aeration technologies, this system expedites the composting process, converting manure and bedding into valuable compost in just 14 days. This choice is underpinned by the Earth Flow system's multifaceted engineering controls, meticulously designed to deter pests and eliminate odors. These controls encompass automated mixing, the integration of bulking agents, positive aeration, and bio-filtration, all seamlessly integrated within GMT's award-winning in-vessel system. Archway's adoption of the Earth Flow system demonstrates a commitment to eco-friendly waste management practices, effectively repurposing horse waste as a valuable resource.

“For over three years we had intensely studied all the composting systems that might possibly meet our needs and finally selected the Earth Flow as the most suitable. Its creator, manufacturer and installer Green Mountain Technologies is coincidentally also like us located in the Seattle area.

Our goal was to install a system that would enable us to compost the horse stall waste and then reuse it in its composted form as clean bedding thereby reducing and even eliminating the need and expense of both hauling off the used bedding and bringing in new traditional bedding. Which in the case of a show barn like ours consists of quite expensive, course sawdust from lumber mills. To sum up, our experience has been so far so good. I am glad to see Green Mountain strongly interested in the equine area as I believe their auger system produces the right result for stall material re-use. Michael Bryan-Brown their founder and CEO has been fully responsive to us and is a pleasure to work with from putting together a purchase order to handing Crescent wrenches back and forth as we tuned up the installation together.”
