Client’s Requirements
Full Cycle Bioplastics tackles plastic pollution and climate change by transforming organic matter into a compostable alternative to oil-based plastics. This biotechnology research group was determined to introduce a composting solution into their scientific process for manufacturing biodegradable PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate) biopolymers. Shifting away from petroleum-derived polymers, their goal was to harness naturally occurring polymers using food waste. They needed an enclosed, lab-friendly solution that offered flexibility for monitoring and modifying the composting process. It was essential for the system to seamlessly integrate with their scientific operations and streamline materials handling for their technicians.
Our Solution
GMT partnered with Full Cycle Bioplastics to deliver a tailored in-vessel composter solution. They opted for GMT's 40' Custom Steel Earth Flow system, strategically placed within their lab. This custom stainless steel enclosure seamlessly integrated a discharge conveyor system, enhancing their composting process. The Earth Flow system's advanced mixing and aeration technologies enabled Full Cycle to transform food scraps into nutrient-rich compost within just three weeks. To further ensure the success of their composting operation, GMT's solution incorporated a range of engineering controls, including automated mixing, bulking agents, positive aeration, automated loading with a tote tipper, and bio-filtration. This comprehensive approach effectively prevented pests and minimized odors, underscoring the quality and efficiency of GMT's in-vessel system.
