International Compost Awareness Week is May 1-7. This year’s theme is, “the soil and water connection.” To celebrate this event, we will be posting fun facts and tips about compost on our blog. Let’s begin with a fun fact!

5/3. Compost improves soil absorbency and aggregation, both qualities promote healthy soil.

5/4. The use of landfill space can be reduced by at least 1/3 by composting food waste.

5/6: Organics in landfills produce methane, a GHG that is proficient at trapping carbon dioxide. By composting organics, you prevent this harmful emission and transform waste into a rich soil amendment.

5/7: Compost promotes soil health, reduces soil erosion and captures carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
